MARINE BATTLE COLOR DETACHMENT
MARCH 12, 2006: The Leatherneck Express was displayed at Fredericksburg, Texas High School in conjunction with the appearance of the Marine Corps “Battle Color Detachment.” The detachment comprises three units: the U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, the Silent Drill Platoon, and the Marine Corps Color Guard. All are attached to Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., known as the “Oldest Post of the Corps.” These Marines appear in hundreds of ceremonies annually across America and abroad.
The U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle
Corps is known as “The Commandant’s Own.” The Silent Drill Platoon performs
intricate drill routines without verbal commands. The Marine Corps Color Guard
carries the official Battle Colors of the Marine Corps, 54 streamers
commemorating military campaigns in which Marines have participated, from the
American Revolution to the present.
