Parade of Heroes

FEBRUARY 19, 2005: The Leatherneck Express appeared in the "Heroes' Parade" in Fredericksburg, Texas.  The event honored U.S. Marines who captured Iwo Jima from Japanese forces in February-March, 1945.  More than 300 Iwo Jima survivors participated in the parade.  Following the parade, the National Museum of the Pacific War staged a reenactment of the Iwo Jima battle, including the historic raising of the American flag atop Mount Suribachi.
